Niko Bellic, a European immigrant, arrives at Liberty City at the
invitation of his cousin Roman, who advertised a fictitious lifestyle in
America that included a mansion, exotic sport cars and beautiful
promiscuous women. Upon his arrival Niko finds out that everything Roman
told him via the Internet was a mere lie. In reality, his cousin runs a
slummy taxi depot, thrives in a small one bedroom apartment and is
constantly hindered by the presences of greedy debt collectors; and in
this case scenario, Niko is Roman's guardian angel. Niko mercilessly
hoards away the loan-sharks while the evils of Liberty City begin to
surround both of the Bellics, and ugly figures from Niko's past begin to
catch up with him. In a city where there is no such thing as peace and
sincerity is rare and indistinguishable, Niko Bellic truly ponders the
deeper meaning of the American Dream.
Niko Bellic, a veteran from the Bosnian war who struggles with memories
of the horrors of war, migrates to Liberty City in search of a better
life as well as to escape the memories of his past. His cousin, Roman,
tells Niko of how great life is in Liberty City prior to his arrival.
But Roman's stories turn out to be false. Instead, Roman struggles with
paying off debt to other mobsters, and this puts both men, especially
Niko, in a bad spot as Niko ends up having to work with mobsters in
order to scrape up a living in the city. However, Niko and Roman are
forced to leave their home in Hove Beach as Russian mobster, Dmitri
Rascalov, puts their lives at stake. Will Niko be able to get the dreams
he wishes that he wanted to have in Liberty City, or will he have to
live through his memories again?
